Want to know what else would lift my spirits? A goody bag. If you have children, you know that when you leave the hospital, they give you your baby AND a goody bag -- filled with formula and diapers and binky's and yeah, it's propaganda, they want to hook you on the commercial products, but still, it's a goody bag and it makes you happy.
When you leave the hospital with your cancer diagnosis, that's all you get. If nothing else, I think cancer should come with a goody bag... with an iPad in it {obviously}. Mr. Jobs should have seen to that before he left, he of all people would understand the life-affirming, mood-lifting effects of sublime design. And the need for reading material on demand, in waiting room, after waiting room, after waiting room.
I dream of iPads because it’s much better than dreaming about stupid cancer. Cancer is not a sublime design, it’s messy and yucky, it’s a disharmonious interloper with no grace or purpose. iPads are beautiful, so i will dream of iPads.
it's great that you will have something to look forward to each week. that place really does have a wonderful vibe. good luck with craftopia!!!
ReplyDelete...oh, and can you ask Jonah where is "Return of Super Pig Part II"? That'll cheer both of us up.
ReplyDeleteHey there I am a friend of Joanne Sargent's and I have just finished treatment for that sucky damn triple negative cancer. It is a roller coaster but is doable. I would love to talk with you as this is big stuff. Plus I am moving to Tiverton, RI on December 28th....yes, all you get when you leave the hospital is that feeling that you have lost your stomach. Writing is a tremendous outlet and I often post on the breastcancer.org triple negative blog. There are a lot of us out there who are full of humor and advice and it is a great site if you haven't check ed it out....and yes I must be much younger than I thought and have an ancestry that I was never aware of even with the blue eyes and formerly blondish hair...but hey bald is beautiful and I may have some things I can pass on to you. I expect to have about 3/4inch of hair by mid January if I am lucky. 2 months after chemo ended it began to slowly come back a little at a time...I still look bald but resilency is the word....
